Rossini with Jakob Lehmann - Trailer - Monteverdi Choir & English Baroque Soloists
Conductor Jakob Lehmann joins the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists for a long-term collaboration exploring Rossini’s music on period instruments. Drawing inspiration from 19th-century performance practices – from Donizetti’s annotated conducting score to orchestral balance, historical instrument setup, and the subtle elasticity of tempo and phrasing – this collaboration sheds new light on how Rossini’s works sounded in his own time. Recorded in rehearsal for Lehmann's conducting debut with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras, which took place on 2 October 2025 at Cadogan Hall, featuring scenes from Ermione and the Stabat Mater. “An evening of extremes… strong operatic emotions, bouncy quasi-opera buffa solos, vivid orchestral detail.” – Planet Hugill

Rossini Sacred & Profane - Trailer - Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique
Conductor Jakob Lehmann makes his London debut with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique on 2 October 2025, launching a new series dedicated to exploring the music of Gioachino Rossini on period instruments. In this video, Lehmann discusses Rossini’s place as one of the most successful composers of his time, his distinctive style, and the impact of performing his works in historically informed contexts, as well as his own journey into music and his first collaboration with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras. The programme features two contrasting works: excerpts from Rossini’s opera Ermione (1819), a rarely performed drama set after the Trojan War, and the Stabat Mater (1841), one of the composer’s major sacred works.

JAKOB LEHMANN // EROICA BERLIN // ROSSINI // L'ITALIANA IN ALGERI // TRAILER
