Schubert & Berwald: Chamber Music by Anima Eterna Brugge

Schubert & Berwald: Chamber Music by Anima Eterna Brugge

Jos van Immerseel: “While since its foundation in 1987 Anima Eterna Brugge has grown organically into a symphonic orchestra, chamber music once again forms an important part of our repertory today. We will continue our journey through orchestral music, but want to broaden our base by including chamber music as well.” This recording is Anima’s very first to be completely devoted to instrumental ensemble music. A group of musicians headed by violinist Jakob Lehmann breathes new life into two 19th-century masterpieces. Schubert's Octet in F is a crown jewel from the repertoire, taking its cue from Beethoven’s celebrated Septet yet at the same time paving the way toward the Grosse Sinfonie. Roughly 20 years after its iconic recording of the complete Schubert symphonies, Anima brings its signature approach to the composer’s chamber music to explore it with the insights and “language skills” developed back then and from thereon. In contrast to Schubert, Franz Berwald has been largely forgotten – undeservedly, as this gifted Swede left behind an oeuvre that is both surprisingly modern and delightfully original. Performed on period instruments, using authoritative sources and contemporary playing techniques, these brilliant pages of large ensemble music are now ready to be rediscovered and enjoyed once again. MENDELSSOHN // In Time by Chouchane Siranossian, Anima Eterna Brugge & Jakob Lehmann

MENDELSSOHN // In Time by Chouchane Siranossian, Anima Eterna Brugge & Jakob Lehmann

"With this new series entitled ‘Salon de musique’, Alpha presents recordings made by artists who have enlivened the Fesival of Salon de Provence for some years now: the pianist Eric le Sage, who has made many recordings for Alpha, the clarinettist Paul Meyer etc… with cellist Claudio Bohórquez, they have now put two Beethoven trios on disc. By 1798, the year Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Trio for piano, clarinet and cello op.11, he was already well-known in Vienna as a remarkable improviser and an ambitious young composer. the piece was clearly aimed at the enlightened aristocracy, as well as competent musical amateurs. This did not prevent the critics, though universally positive, from judging the score to be over-complex in places. Dedicated to the Empress Marie-Theresa of Austria, the Septet was published in 1802 by Hofmeister, and on being well-received it was then rearranged for various combinations. Beethoven himself made a version for clarinet, cello and piano, op.38 in E Flat major – the one recorded here." The Golden Age – Cello 1925

New CD from Christoph Heesch, the prizewinner of the Fanny Mendelssohn Sponsorship Award Works by Paul Hindemith, Jacques Ibert, Ernst Toch and Bohuslav Martinů Christoph Heesch, Cello Eroica Berlin, Chamber Orchestra Jakob Lehmann, Conductor The young cellist Christoph Heesch is releasing a revolutionary CD on GENUIN. The prizewinner of the Fanny Mendelssohn Sponsorship Award plays four cello concertos from 1924-25, each of which is a sensation in itself. The composers Paul Hindemith, Jacques Ibert, Bohuslav Martinů and Ernst Toch wrote exciting music for an exciting time: they broke all conventions and put the solo instrument and orchestra in a new relationship to each other. Christoph Heesch throws himself into these virtuoso, melodious, cumbersome works with verve. In short: absolutely worthwhile works that you do not want to listen to anywhere else than from this CD.
